Winter Mantra: Nourish mind & body, more rest & eat well.
WHAT TO EAT AND WHAT NOT TO EAT IN WINTER ACCORDING TO AYURVEDA

FAVOR:

Local fresh, organic when possible, easily digestable veggies and fruit, good quality milk and yogurt (for its active bacteria which help the gut), good quality ghee, warm home cooked meals.

Carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, spinach and leafy greens (kale), god quality yogurt, pomegranate, Brussels sprouts, kiwis, guava, leeks, turnips.

Drink good quality water through out the day, warm water helps to flush toxins out of the body, to maximize healing benefits of water, add detoxifying spices to the water by making pots of tea and drink often.

AVOID:

Commercially processed foods as well as canned, frozen and anything pre-packaged, leftovers, food grown or sprayed with chemicals or laced with preservatives.
This foods tax the digestive system and clog the channels of circulation, creating a sluggish, compromised immune system.
Do not drink iced cold drinks or anything cold, it chocks the digestion!!

FAVOR SPICES IN YOUR COOKIGN AND TISANES/TEAS.

Spices: Ginger, turmeric, coriander, fennel and fenugreek help open up the channels of the body and support the flushing of toxins via the skin, urinary tract, colon and liver. Add spices to soups and dahls as they cook, or sauté the spices in Ghee and add to dishes when the cooking process is completed.
